THE PLANETS
For this project, we were assigned an unknown piece of music to interpret into a 2-D form visually using only shape, form, line, and typography. We then used the image to create a poster promoting a concert of the selected performance. Hierarchy was first established in black and white before applying a maximum of two colors. The initial challenge was designing for the piece of music strictly on listening and interpreting the piece itself rather than knowing any context about it. The next challenge arose when pairing type and color with image. For such a classical piece of music by Holst, I chose to use Bembo and a rich purple to refer to its classical nature especially in comparison to my modern imagery. I then manipulated the type to reflect the action depicted in the imagery below it.
